In honor of its 30th anniversary, the popular fighting game Mortal Kombat has unveiled a brand-new logo and a special video.
The official YouTube channel for Warner Bros. Games’ multibillion-dollar gaming brand just uploaded a short film featuring snippets from games, movies, and other animations spanning three decades. The video mashes together scenes from the original Mortal Kombat (1992) and the upcoming Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate (2020), as well as footage from the 1995 live-action Mortal Kombat feature, the re-imagined 2021 film.
The movie opens with footage from an old interview with Ed Boon, during which he says, “This one arcade game that we produced in 1992 has managed to spawn off all these different forms of media.” Afterward, a graphic highlight reel features great fighters like Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade, and more, interacting both in the past and the present. Included in the film are clips from behind the scenes, giving a glimpse into the process of making the game through motion capture and computer-generated imagery. In addition to the video, a new piece of artwork was released on October 8, 2022, depicting the famous dragon logo shape created from aspects from the Mortal Kombat franchise, including game modes, plot moments, characters, and finishing moves. Additionally, fresh merch has been produced and sold exclusively on the Warner Bros. website.
